Meet Your Guide
Joni MacKinnon
Joni was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. A graduate of Capilano College,
she has a degree in Outdoor Recreation Management.
For over 20 years, Joni has been a licensed guide for hunting, fishing, horseback,
dog packing, and wildlife photography tours.
Joni has produced several outdoor video productions including two "Women in
the Wilderness" videos promoting family involvement in wilderness recreation.
The first woman president of the Yukon Fish & Game Association, she was a director
with the Canadian Wildlife Federation and a past director for the Yukon Salmon
Committee. Joni helped negotiate the Pacific Salmon Treaty on the International
Yukon River Salmon Agreement between the United States and Canada between 1996
and 2002.
Joni opens her home and her ranch to work with youth-at-risk, providing a stable,
wholesome, family environment with opportunities for training and a 'fresh start.'
Joni holds a record for one of the largest Alaska Yukon Moose taken with a bow
and arrow. However, don't forget to ask her how she carried 621 lbs. a distance
of 35 feet to win a world record in the Robin Hood Flour Packing contest.
